In a recent Corps Commanders’ Conference held at the General Headquarters (GHQ) and presided over by Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir, the top brass of the Pakistan Army expressed satisfaction over the seamless democratic transfer of power both at the federal and provincial levels. According to a report by a private news channel, the military’s media wing quoted the forum's belief that democratic consolidation is crucial for the country's progress.
During the conference, attended by corps commanders, principal staff officers, and all formation commanders, the armed forces reiterated their commitment to ensuring a secure environment for the February 8 general elections. They emphasized that the military's role was solely focused on providing security and had no involvement in the electoral process itself.
However, the military leadership expressed disappointment over certain segments of the polity and media, particularly on social media platforms, for unjustly maligning the armed forces with unfounded allegations of interference. They criticized these actions as detrimental to the nation's focus on crucial issues such as good governance, economic recovery, and public welfare.
The forum stressed the importance of following due legal processes with evidence and proof rather than resorting to baseless political rhetoric. It also highlighted the need for a post-election environment that promotes political and economic stability, leading to peace and prosperity for the people of Pakistan.
In a show of support for newly-elected Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the army brass vowed to bring to justice those responsible for the May 9 events under relevant legal provisions. They condemned efforts to spread misinformation and fake news, urging the people of Pakistan to remain positive and united in the face of such divisive tactics.
COAS Asim Munir emphasized the importance of maintaining high standards of professionalism and operational preparedness among field commanders, urging them to strive for excellence in both operations and training activities.
Overall, the Pakistan Army reiterated its commitment to defending and serving the nation in its pursuit of enduring stability, prosperity, and security.
