A senior official from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has characterized the situation inside Khan Younis' Nasser Hospital as "horrific," stating that the facility, once a site of healing, has now tragically transformed into "a place of death."

Jonathan Whittall, a senior humanitarian affairs officer at OCHA, made these remarks during a joint mission with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Palestine Red Crescent to evacuate critically ill patients who have been trapped inside the besieged hospital for weeks amidst ongoing Israeli airstrikes.

Whittall described the conditions inside the hospital as appalling, citing the lack of essential resources such as food, water, and electricity. He noted the severe shortage of medical staff, with only a few doctors and nurses remaining to attend to the 150 patients housed in one of the hospital buildings.

According to Whittall, the corridors are littered with deceased individuals, while patients face desperate circumstances. He emphasized that the current state of Nasser Hospital represents a preventable tragedy that should never have occurred.
