DUBAI: In the recent International Cricket Council (ICC) Men’s ODI Batting Rankings, Indian batsman Virat Kohli secured the third spot, narrowing the gap with top-ranked compatriot Shubman Gill and second-ranked Pakistani player Babar Azam.
Kohli's impressive performance in the ICC World Cup 2023 pushed him up one spot to third, tallying 765 runs in the tournament and setting a new record for the most runs in a single World Cup edition. His three centuries during the event also marked his 50th ODI century, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar's record.
With 791 rating points, Kohli is now only 35 points behind Gill, who maintains the lead with 826 rating points, closely trailed by Azam at 824.
Following Kohli is Indian captain Rohit Sharma, who climbed to fourth place with 769 ratings, showcasing his prowess with 597 runs and an average of 54.27 during the ICC World Cup 2023, finishing as the second-highest run-scorer in the tournament after Kohli.
Sharma and Kohli were pivotal to India’s remarkable performance in the World Cup, leading the team to an undefeated streak until the final, where they lost to eventual champions Australia.
Quinton de Kock slipped to fifth place while New Zealand's Daryl Mitchell surged to sixth with 752 rating points after a notable performance in the ICC World Cup 2023, scoring 552 runs.
Australia's Travis Head soared 28 spots to 15th, boosted by his standout performances, including a century in the final against India after recovering from an injury that sidelined him earlier in the tournament.
In the ICC ODI Bowling Rankings, South African spinner Keshav Maharaj retained the top position, while Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood rose four places to claim second. Indian pacers Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah maintained their third and fourth positions, respectively, but their compatriot Kuldeep Yadav dropped to a joint sixth spot with Afghanistan's Rashid Khan.
