KARACHI: In a tragic incident on Wednesday, a water tanker collided with a motorcycle, resulting in the death of the rider in Karachi’s Saadi Town. The victim, identified as Tanveer, was killed on the spot, according to police reports.
The accident occurred when the water tanker, for reasons still under investigation, struck Tanveer’s motorcycle. The impact was severe, and the motorcyclist was fatally injured. His body was promptly transported to a local hospital where necessary formalities were conducted.
Eyewitnesses reported that the driver of the water tanker fled the scene immediately after the collision, leaving the victim behind. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident and are working to trace the driver responsible for the accident.
The rising frequency of traffic accidents in Karachi has triggered public outcry, with protests erupting in various parts of the city. Recently, demonstrators in the Five Star Chowrangi area set fire to more than 10 water tankers in response to another tragic road incident. These acts of anger and frustration reflect the growing public concern over the city's traffic safety issues.
The increase in traffic-related accidents has become a serious issue in Karachi. According to the Chhipa Welfare Association, more than 260 lives have been lost in traffic incidents across the city in 2025 alone. In addition, nearly 1,500 people have sustained injuries in these accidents, with the injured including 6,290 men, 193 women, and 42 children.
The surge in traffic fatalities and injuries has led authorities to take action. Recently, the Karachi commissioner enforced Section 144 to restrict the movement of heavy traffic in an attempt to curb the growing number of road accidents.
As the investigation continues, residents and activists are calling for better road safety measures, improved driver education, and stricter enforcement of traffic laws to prevent further tragedies.
