KARACHI: The Anti-Corruption Court has acquitted Senate Chairman Yousuf Raza Gilani in three cases, including the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) case.

Gilani appeared before the Federal Anti-Corruption Court, where his lawyer, Farooq H. Naek, presented arguments. After reviewing the case, the court declared him innocent and cleared him of all corruption charges.

He was accused of causing a loss of over Rs6 billion to the national exchequer through freight subsidy fraud. Responding to the verdict, Gilani stated that the person who testified against him is now an accused himself.

The TDAP mega-scandal, which surfaced in 2013, involved allegations of corruption worth billions. More than 70 cases were filed against various companies and individuals. The late PPP leader Makhdoom Amin Fahim was also named in the scandal.

In 2015, during a court hearing, non-bailable arrest warrants were issued against Yousuf Raza Gilani and Amin Fahim. The case lingered for years before reaching its conclusion with Gilani’s acquittal.

This verdict marks a significant legal victory for Gilani, who has faced prolonged litigation. His acquittal signals the closure of a major corruption case that had remained unresolved for over a decade.
